This administration is using the current situation to promote a ultimately fascist agenda. The "patriot" act is just another giant leap down the road towards fascism...oh wait, looks like we're almost there. In 1984 George Orwell describes a future society where a distant war fought in far away land is used as one of the main fulcrums by which rights are limited and society is controlled through fear. I can't believe they can use the same tactic right now so blatantly. Didn't everyone have to read this in high school?
Why do we have cops? We have them because life without them would be short and painful. I understand this; however, that does not mean the cops are the good guys. They are the criminals that are on your side. I say this, obviously talking about the federal government as well. We can all agree that they are all corrupt. power corrupts. It's a given. What upsets me about the current situation is that the american people are letting them ride roughshod all over us. Bush and his administration are ultimately only part of a problem. The problem is that americans no longer stand up for their rights and therefore, perhaps we don't deserve them anymore. Actually the part of Bush and Cheney's administration that is truly awful is the measures they been able to enact that decrease our ability to watch and control them.
